hurry up and wait...

My previous message was posted Wednesday morning after our arrival at the HQ location. Equipment for three shelters was suppossed to arrive this morning at about 8:30 am. At about 10 am a truck did show up with a bunch of equipment, but none of it was for our project. So, we spent the day unloading trucks and trying to stay out of the way of other workers.

We are expecting (hoping, more like) that Thursday will be a busy day -- we are expecting the original 3 locations to show up as well as equipment for up to 7 more. If that actually happens, we will have enough work for all of our teams, and then some. One of these days, I'm sure the logistics will work themselves out; I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Life in Montgomery appears to have continued as normal. There is little visible damage to structures but in speaking with residents I learned they did recieve a signifigant amount of rain. There is some water damage visible on the walls of my hotel room and the rooms that others are staying in.

I spoke with my boss today, who is stationed in Baton Rouge. They are staying in a Red Cross staff shelter. Their project territory includes all of Lousiana and everything to the west of the Mississippi River. I have been thinking about their team quite a bit the last couple of days; it was good to hear that they are all doing well and are in good spirits.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Take care,
Mitch
